Closing Ceremony

The first edition of Canada China International Film Festival Closing Ceremony in Concordia University, Montreal, on September 19th, 2016, the closing ceremony of the first edition of Canada China International Film Festival (CCIFF) held in Concordia University, and announced thirteen Canada China Academy Film Awards (CCAFA).

This weekend has been a wonderful example of all the potential that lies within the collaboration between Canadian and Chinese talent in film and entertainment. In these past 3 days, CCIFF have 6 cinema, around hundred of screening, and there are 85 amazing films had been showing to our audience. There are 8 events showcased the future of cinema, in cutting edge technology, in cross national project building, and progressive thinking in terms gender roles, which together, are all represented Canadian and Chinese values, both as nations and people. We truly hope that this festival has anchored itself as the meeting point for your stories, and our world.

As an art, film, can transcend geographical limits, by grouping, uniting and reflecting differences as well as similarities between cultures. In the end, it really comes down to the movies. Throughout the closing ceremony, CCIFF announced 13 Canada China Film Academy Film Award. The first edition of China Canada International Film Festival came to a successful ending  through revealing the recipient of each award category.

Mr. Graham Carr, the Vice president of Concordia University delivered the closing speech and presented the film clips of Canada China Academy Film Award for the films in our official competition.

1. Best Special Effect Award recipient-  Brothers (Director: A Gan)

Presenter: Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Technology Manager of Disney Animation Studios

Technology is a key highlight of CCIFF, therefore there is a special award.

Best Technology Award recipient: VR short film: Lighting Up (Director: Ge, Shuiying, Beijing Visual Dimension Culture Technology Co., Ltd).

Presenter: Mr. Rupert Bottonberg from Fantasia Film Festival.

3. Best Screenplay Award recipient – Last Shot (Central Academy of Drama)

Ms, Miao Song, the executive director of CCIFF, Mr. Serguei A. Mokov, the CTO of mDreams Pictures, Ms. Ge Shuiying, the manager of Beijing Dimension Visual Culture Technology Co.Ltd, and Ms. Yue Xiaomei, the representative of International Film Festival president exchanged strategy agreement.

The two performances were presented by Canada Contemporary Dancing troupe: Sinha Dance and MCCCA.


There are two closing films, the first is a short film called << The Name You Carry >> and the second one is a Canadian documentary << I am the Blues >>.

This marks the end of the First edition of Canada China International Film Festival.
