Entertainment Technology Summit

As a unique component of the first Canada-China International Film Festival, the Entertainment Technology Summit which last for two days came to an perfect end. The summit is honored to have many prestigious specialists from various fields bringing the audience endless technological knowledge combined with commercial opportunity. Let’s take a look on the splendid moments!

Day 1

Nasim Sedaghat, an Offering Manager, is currently working in IBM Interactive Experience Department, helping other companies to identify their pain points and improve their customer experience with digital solutions.

Shuiying Ge, Chief Scientist, Beijing Visual Dimension Culture Technology Co., Ltd. She is the director of multimedia product Ink Space-time and arts designer in several Cartoons. Her animated production Agent F.O.X (2014) has won the award of “National Animation Quality Engineering Animation Products” and the 14th China Huabiao Film Awards of “Animation of the Year”. Here we also have

Jacques Méthé, President, Cirque du Soleil Mèdia, his topic os Storytelling in Virtual Reality. Jacques Méthé has worked in movies, television and events in Canada and several other countries. Always attracted by new challenges and  unknown fields, he is currently producing Cirque du Soleil-branded content for television and Virtual Reality.

Paul Debevec, Senior staff scientist of Google VR his topic is Building Photoreal Digital Characters. His research includes early work in photogrammetry, high dynamic range imaging, image-based lighting, and high-resolution facial scanning. He received an Academy Scientific and Engineering Award in 2010 because of his Light Stage systems.

Charalambos Poullis, Associate Professor in Concordia University. His topic is AR/VR Application in 3D Graphics Group & Elastic 3D Spacey. He has been in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Concordia University since August 2015, where he also serves as the Director of the Immersive and Creative Technologies lab, and a member of the 3D Graphics Group.

Youmin Zhang, Professor in Concordia University, his topic is UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and Our Daily Life. Youmin Zhang is an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Instrumentation, Automation and Systems, an Editor-at-Large of the Journal of Intelligent & Robotic Systems, and the Editorial Board Member of six other international journals.

Ricardo Dal Farra, Associate Professor in Concordia University. Being a composer and new media artist, he has presented his electroacoustic and visual-music work in more than 40 countries. Also, the recordings of his pieces are published in 23 international editions.

Mei Si is an assistant professor in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Her primary research interest is artificial intelligence, man-machine interaction, interdiscipline subject of roberts and their application. Her work is supported by Disney, DOD, NIH, IBM and the ESA foundation.

Jeremy R. Cooperstock is a member of the Centre for Intelligent Machines and a founding member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology at McGill University.

 Francois Robillard is the vice president of iLLOGIKA company. He gave the story of virtual reality from a game player’s perspective.

Day 2

Gina Hara is a Creative Director in Concordia University.

Rajesh Sharma is the technology manager of Disney Animation Studios. His topic is the Technology in the film Zootopia. Rajesh received a MBA and a Masters’ degree in Computer Science from UCLA. He manages a team of software developers that works closely with artists to develop essential tools in production of animated films.

Paul G. Kry is Associate Professor in McGill University. his topic is Creation via computation: new tools for video, art, and animation.

Peter Grogono, Professor Emeritus in Concordia University. His topic is Graphics Teaching, Appreciating Films. Peter Grogono has been worked in various areas of digital technology, including electronic music, operating systems, and pattern recognition.

Eloi Champagne, Technical Director of Animation Studio of Canada National Film Board. His topic is Immersive Storytelling at the NFB Animation Studio.

Donald Marinelli, Associate Director of Entertainment Technology Management Program in Columbia University. His topic is the Technology and Phenomenology of Future Linear Narrative. Donald Marinelli is also a visiting Professor in the School of Arts, Media, and Engineering at Arizona State University. He co-founded the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center (ETC).

In all, this Summit has offered an informative and dynamic atmosphere for all the participants to seek opportunities for networking, and discover new connections between technology and entertainment. The experts’ analyzation of the past, present and future of entertainment technology benefits the audience greatly.
