Closing Ceremony
of the 2nd edition of Canada China International Film Festival

On September 27th 2017, Canada China International Film Festival (CCIFF) successfully held the closing ceremony at the Cinéma Cineplex Forum #4l in Montreal, Canada.

During today’s closing ceremony, over 200 guests were in attendance, including the Chairman of Canada China International Film Festival, Ms. Miao Song, Honorary Lifetime Advisor, Director Qiankuan Li, China Class One Director Guiyun Xiao, the vice consul of the Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal, Mr Wenjian Xing, The vice director of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of The People’s Republic of China, Film Branch, Mr. Jiandong Zhou, Director of film “Seventy-seven Days”Mr Hantang Zhao, Chinese Famous Actress Yanyi Jiang, Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University, Mrs Anne Whitelaw, The Ambassador of the Canada China International Film Festival, Alain Desrochers, Vice-présidente Régionale at RBC Mrs. Diane Jacob,
and team, Co-founder of CCIFF, Mr Serguei Mokhov …

In the past three days, there were 5 events showcased the future of cinema, in cutting edge technology, in cross national project building, and progressive thinking in terms gender roles, which together, are all represented Canadian and Chinese values, both as nations and people. We truly hope that this festival has anchored itself as the meeting point for your stories, and our world.

As an art, film, can transcend geographical limits, by grouping, uniting and reflecting differences as well as similarities between cultures. In the end, it really comes down to the movies. Film competition section is one of the core programs in CCIFF. About 30 films will be selected to enter the final round. The jury will determine the 13 award winners at the final round as well as 2 TV awards. The Chairman Miao Song, Mr Wenjian Xing, the vice consul of the Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal, Anne Whitelaw, the Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University, The Ambassador of the Canada China International Film Festival, Alain Desrochers and Chinese Embassy Xinyu Yang delivered the closing speech and presented the film clips of Canada China Academy Film Award for the films in our official competition. Furthermore, we also have [Best TV Documentary] and [Best TV Series] Awards. It is also worth noting that the winner of our Script Competition is “Love with a Quebecois”–Jiangling Li.

During the festival, the Chairman Miao Song stated that “the second edition of the Canada China International Film Festival cannot make such a great success without the effort and help of the whole committee. I feel truly thankful for these young people. Even though the festival is a young festival, it is a festival combining with arts and technology. In the future, we will keep on learning from the experts in the film industry and therefore working for the third edition.”

Mr Wenjian Xing, the vice consul of the Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal  congratulated the success of the Canada China International Film Festival and grated the Chairman Miao Song and its committee for their great contribution to the festival.

The vice director of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of The People’s Republic of China, Film Branch, Mr. Jiandong Zhou was glad to have the chance to come to Montreal and attend the closing ceremony. Besides, he mentioned that Canada and China had established diplomatic relations with each other for 46 years and the cooperation in the film industry had deepened. He hoped that the Canada China International Film Festival will learn from the past and keep advertising the films of both countries.

Anne Whitelaw, the Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University welcomed the Chinese filmmakers and directors to come to the Canada China International Film Festival. She stated that“Concordia University’s relationship with China is long-standing and every year, many Chinese students come to Concordia for their studies and exchanges.”

The Ambassador of the Canada China International Film Festival, Alain Desrochers mentioned that he was delighted to film in China and work with the Chinese filmmaker. He loved to have the opportunity to film with Chinese in Canada and welcomed the Chinese filmmakers to create their works in Montreal.

Chinese Embassy Ms. Xinyu Yang thanked the committee of Canada China International Film Festival for finishing the short documentary Journey to the East within such short period of time. She said that “since 1973, the Canada China Communication Scholarships has provided lots of opportunities for the Canadian scholars to study in China. At the same time, more and more Chinese choose to study in Canada.”

In the end, “Journey to The East” and “The Seventy-Seven Days” which is directed by Hantang Zhao, starred by Yiyan Jiang as the closing film screening drew a beautiful period for the second edition of Canada China International Film Festival.
