Opening Ceremony


On the evening of September 25th, 2017, the opening ceremony of the 2nd CCIFF was held in Cineplex Forum, Montreal, Canada.

Welcomed by traditional Chinese lion dance performances, guests walked through the red carpet one by one. As an annual film festival which gathers people in film industries from all over the world, the China-Canada International Film Festival attracts countless outstanding specialists from various fields every year.

Director of District 3 Innovation Center, Mr. Xavier-Henri Hervé and CCIFF President, Ms. Song Miao, Provost of Concordia University, Mr. Graham Carr, President of Connexion Films International, Mr. Daniel Vermette, President, Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute in Quebec, Mr. Richard Filion, Co-director of CCIFF and a professor from Concordia,Mr. Serguei A. Mokhov made a speech in the cocktail event before the opening ceremony, and wished to a success to the 2nd edition of CCIFF opening ceremony.

In the opening ceremony, CCIFF’s organizers welcomed the guest with their speeches.
Director of District 3 Innovation Center, Xavier-Henri Hervé, said that the success of CCIFF is the result of many people’s contribution. He emphasized that it is the contribution of everyone in CCIFF community that made everything possible, thus he thanks those people who supported CCIFF and CCIFF committee members.

Ms. Song Miao,CCIFF president, welcomed and thanked the guests from afar, the audience who supports CCIFF, and CCIFF committee members.

Consul General of Chinese Consulate-General in Montreal (Canada), Mr. Peng Jingtao attended the opening ceremony, made a speech and wished 2nd CCIFF a success.

Unable to attend the opening ceremony, Telefilm Executive Director, Carolle Brabant sent CCIFF her congratulations. She said it is amazing to know that Ms. Miao Song hold a 2nd CCIFF with her team. She wishes a great success to 2nd CCIFF.
NFB Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson, Claude Joli-Coeur has great expectation for CCIFF. He said that Montreal as an important film making city and that CCIFF, as a young film festival, brings vitality to both Montreal’s and Canadian film market.

Vice President of China Friendship Association, Mr. Hu Sishe said that CFA started from the cultural communication and that he is greatly honored to attend CCIFF, which is also dedicated to cultural communication

CCIFF Honorary Chairman, famous Chinese director Mr. Li Qiankuanbrought a success to the audience by showing in person. Mr. Li Qiankuan commented that it is films that brought people together. CCIFF is the bridge of the friendship between China and Canada. Everyone who contributes to it is the bridge maker. Our world needs the communication between the west and the east. Today, he brought Chinese films to Canada via CCIFF, which is also a form of communication and further a way to inherit the civilization of humanity.

CCIFF is an important platform for cultural communication between China and Canada. Before the opening screening events, Prof. Robert Reid from Concordia and Prof. David Rolston and Prof. Robert Reid from Michigan State University introduce the art of Peking opera to the audience. They interacted with the audience humorously with Chinese and get enthusiastic applause for their speech.

Directed by Huang Ying, the short animation film The Plume is selected as one of the two opening films. This film is about a moving love story between two birds. However, a cat threats the birds with the cost of their lives and force they to choose between love and life…

Afterwards, the 3D Peking Opera film In Pursuit of the general as the opening film for screening. Director Teng Junjie said that he himself is fascinated by traditional culture and classic arts. However, young people rarely pay attention to traditional culture now. They never goes to the theater but they go to the cinema, which inspired him to make an film about Peking opera. Taking Peking opera as a foundation and the media of films as as a bonus, you can activate the traditional culture through this combination. In order to shoot the Beijing opera film, many people have done a great effort and sacrifice a lot of things, which finally leads to the success of the dramatic changes in the the history of Peking opera films. Mr. Teng Junjie said that his hometown Shanghai is a the sister city to Canada’s Montreal is a friendly city and he believes that CCIFF will continue contributing to the friendship between China and Canada.

The film In Pursuit of the General was selected as the opening film. As an 3D panorama films about Peking Opera, In Pursuit of the General combines the traditional Chinese culture and modern film making technology, which brings vitality to traditional Chinese culture. The 2nd edition of CCIFF will hold a co-production project pitch and an entertainment technology summit, in order to accelerate the communication between China and Canada and to improve the technology in film production.

The opening ceremony of the 2nd CCIFF ended successfully. More surprise will be brought to the audience in the following days and more good memories between China and Canada will be created.
