The 3rd annual Canada-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (CCIEF) took place in Montreal on May 21th, led by a coalition between the RDFI 研发智库, Montreal NewTech, and McGill Chinese Graduate Students Association (McGill CGSA).

Thanks to CCIEF for inviting Dr. Serguei Mokhov (co-founder and co-director of Canada China International Film Festival -- CCIFF, where RDFI helped to co-organized ET Summit at CCIFF 2018) as a Tech Speaker. Dr. Mokhov gave a talk about ‘Emerging Trends and Opportunities in Film and Entertainment Technology’, on XR (VR/AR/MR), HCI, AI, blockchain, open source opportunities and Illimitable Space System in this domain. Through participating at various events like CCIEF, CCIFF is hoping to foster and develop digital content opportunities, business relations and partnerships for art and technology-enabled creative industries.

More details on the event and other speakers can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2137327296363074/

Happy summer to all!
It’s time for a MOVIE OF THE MONTH again!
Do you remember which movie won Best Documentary Film at the last CCIFF? It’s "A Moonless Night: Boat People, 40 years later"! This film uncovers the painful memories of Vietnamese men, women and children forced to flee their homeland following the 1975 takeover of South Vietnam by the Communist North, which caused the most life-changing refugee experiences in Canadian history. In stark contrast to the terrifying incidents at sea and in refugee camps in Southeast Asia, they live a newly acquired happy life in Canada. Click this link to know more about what happened:

Ever wondering what new films have been scheduled for screening? We got you! For May, we have received films from China, Germany and Canada.
Themed traditional Chinese culture, Chinese features are especially attractive in this month's submissions. "Stammering Ballad" (2018), a music documentary talks about northern China folk songs and the life struggle story behind. "Where is Mama" (1960), a water ink animation, will be presented for the Children’s Hospital program. Moreover, another two dramas are also worth some attention. Both of them come from an outstanding Chinese female director, Mei Hu. She used to be one of the 5th Generation in the 1980s in China and has gained reputation domestically and internationally. Her first film, "Army Nurse" (1985), will be presented in the Chinese classic film program, and her latest film "Enter the Forbidden City" (2019), a film about Chinese opera will be the opening film for this year’s edition!
