3rd Edition Canada China International Film Festival (September 21-27, 2018)

The 3rd Canada China International Film Festival was successfully concluded with its Gala and Awards Ceremony

At 5:30 pm on September 27, 2018, the 3rd China-Canada International Film Festival held its Closing Gala & Awards Ceremony at the Le Windsor in Montreal.

Silver Star’s Michael Liu’s Remarks during the Cocktail Reception

Sponsor Silver Star Montreal, Michael Liu, gave a welcoming remark during the cocktail reception and welcomed the guests. Following, a Chinese Lion dance led guests into the ballroom to be seated for the gala.

 

At 6:30 pm, the Closing Gala and Awards Ceremony officially began, the emcees of the night were Canada China Art-Tech Board of Directors Mr. Jimmy Chan along with Renown Montreal hostesses, Lori Feng and Christine Beaudoin. On behalf of the festival, they expressed their gratitude to the supporting organizations whom are:

Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal, China Film Producers Association, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada, China State Administration of Radio,Film and Television, China National Film Museum, Telefilm Canada, National Film Board of Canada and Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles  (SODEC).

Following was the welcoming remarks. Dr. Miao Song, during the remarks from the director of Canada China International Film Festival, started: “it is only with the strong support from everyone and the continuous hard work of the team that allowed the third Canada China International Film Festival to reach the achievements of today. We are very honored to bring  China National Film Museum’s “One Belt, One Road International Film Exchange” and the China Film International Tour Exhibition to Canada. Additionally, I am pleased to see that the film festival driven by the advancement of science and technology and promotes the combination of science and technology in film industry between Canada and China has been featured through this platform.

Dr. Song thanked all the partners, sponsors and government officials for their full support, the organizing committee for their hard work and dedication, and the filmmakers from China and Canada for their participation for this edition.

She invited the festival’s significant partner, Quebec Film and Television Council’ CEO Pierre Moreau to the stage for opening speeches.

 

Mr. Chen Xueming, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal

Following, Mr. Chen Xueming, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal, delivered a speech. He first expressed his warm congratulations on the success of the the film festival on behalf of the Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the film industry professionals of both China and Canada for their efforts in cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Consul General Mr. Chen stated through data that the Chinese film industry has flourished in recent years, with the number of movie screened have exceeded to over 50,000. Last year, the total box office of the films was estimated to have reached over 8.86 billion US dollars. China has become the second largest film producer in the world with the second largest film market. At the same time, Canada has a growing film and television industry with advanced television arts and digital entertainment technologies. Canadians are opened with desire to understand Chinese culture. Thus China and Canada have broad prospects for further exchanges and cooperation in the field of film.

He praised that third Canada China International Film Festival was well planned in this context. In the past seven days, filmmakers from both countries have gathered together to bring more than 30 different of Chinese and Canadian films to the audience while hosting film academic seminars, Quebec film industry “Fam tour,” an Entertainment Technology Summit forum, and film screenings. Through these series of professional film exchange activities, such as business project matchmaking, not only built opportunities for professional exchanges and ideas for filmmakers in China and Canada but also allowed industry professionals from the two countrie gain a better understanding between each other’s cultures. CCIFF is a is a crucial platform that sets the foundation to foster future film cooperation between the two countries.

Consul General Mr. Chen pointed out that while Canada China International Film Festival is still very young, its growth is inseparable from the contributions made by Dr. Miao Song and her team for efforts in cultural exchanges between China and Canada. It is also inseparable from the efforts from both the Chinese and Canadian governments. Support is even more inseparable from the active participation of the Chinese and Canadian industry professionals. Lasly, he gave his wishes and support for the future editions of the film festival.

The signing of the contract was completed: Pierre Moreau, CEO of Quebec Film and Television Council, and Mr. Fenglin Wang, Vice President and Secretary General of China Film Producers Association, signed a memorandum of cooperation between Quebec Film and Television Bureau and China Film Producers Association; Mr. Daniel Vermette, President of Connexion Films International and the Board of Directors of the Canada China Art Tech, and Mr. Mu Xiaoyong, COO of Summer Star Media Co., Ltd. signed the “Little Wings” and “Three Knives” film and television cooperation agreement; Concordia University mDreams Stage Research and Creation Group, Dr. Serguei Mokhov and the founder of Xinghan Yuntu, “Do Not Miss it” technical director He Wei signed the AR cooperation agreement; CCIFF director Dr. Miao Song  and the director Yu Nini signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Director Ms. Nini Yu, the director of the People’s Choice Award in her emotion acceptance speech stated the weight of the trophy symbolizes the encouragement given from Canada China International Film Festival and as a young director, she has a long road ahead for film creation.

The Best Film acceptance speech was given my Mr. Xiaoyong Mu, executive producer of Zhang Yimou’s “Shadow.” He shared the good news that just a few hours ago the documentary Zhang Yimou’s “Shadow.” and the feature film Shadow were released in Chinese cinemas.
