Third Edition of Canada China International Film Festival Shanghai Press Conference

On June 20th 2018, the third edition of Canada China International Film Festival (CCIFF) Shanghai press conference was held at Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai. Around 60 guests of important government representatives, organizations, filmmakers and related professionals have attended this event, including: Jean-François Lépine O.C., Directeur des Représentations du Gouvernement du Québec en Chine (Beijing, Shanghai et Qingdao); Jose Sia, head of Political, Economic, and Public Affairs, Consulate General of Canada; Junjie Teng, Shanghai Media Group Deputy Director, renowned Chinese director; Brigitte Carbonneau, Senior Manager of Cirque du Soleil (China); Yue Huang, Cultural Diplomacy and Creative Industry Officer, Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai; Christine Zhao,Agente éducation, culture et affaires publiques, Bureau du Québec à Shanghai; Xiaoyong Mu,  Summer Start TV Media Chief Operating Officer, Producer; Sky Wang, director of “Lost in Apocalypse”; Xinyong Li, President of Beijing Xiangda Investment Management Company Ltd.; Dongjin Huang, Head of Film Engineering Department of Shanghai Film Academy, Shanghai University; Miao Song, Concordia University professor and CCIFF Director;  Yongjian Sun, Former Science and Technology Consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Montreal and CCIFF advisor; Hantang Zhao, Director of “Seventy-Seven Days”; Zexing Xu, general manager of Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Entertainment Inc.; Dingling Chen, chairman of The Board of DreamPlus Corporation CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited; Chao Chen, President of of DreamPlus Corporation CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited; Wie Chen, CEO of CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited; Mingye Luo, General Manager of CoolBoy Corporation Limited; etc. It is announced, during this Shanghai press conference, that the third edition of Canada China International Film Festival will be mainly hosted in Montreal, and there will be sub-venues in Toronto and Ottawa. This press conference is hosted by Canada China Art-Tech, organized by DreamPlus Corporation and CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited and co-organized by International Film Alliance and Shanghai Xiuyi Wenhua Corporation.

 

First, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the sudden change of venue; the original site, Yuanxin Tian’an Hall (Union Church), is not available due to safety issues related to water leakage caused by the heavy rain in Shanghai on the 19th of June. We would like to express our gratitude to Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai for preparing their facility for the conference at such short notice and to every guest who attended the event for their support and understanding.

 

 

Concordia University mDreams Stage Research Team, one of the organizers of the Canada China International Film Festival, presented ISS Illimitable Space System Performance (Infinite Space Show) as the opening show, a dance performance which combines art and technology, accompanied with background music composed by Tianguang Yang, from RMASTUDIO.

Mr. Lépine expressed his support for the Festival and Mrs. Miao Song (CCIFF Director) in his speech, and stated his support for coproduction possibilities in Quebec, Canada, which will help to reinforce the coproduction and collaboration between Canada and China, a platform provided by the third edition of Canada China International Film Festival.

 

 

Jose Sia, Head of Political, Economic, and Public Affairs, Consulate General of Canada

 

Mr. Sia presented some general information of Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018 to the guests. He encouraged film industry professionals to dedicate greater attention on Canada and develop further film and television projects. Besides, Mr. Sia recognized the achievements of previous editions of the Festival, and he expected more cooperation between Canada and China regarding film technology.

 

 

Yongjian Sun, Former Science and Technology Consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Montreal, senior policy advisor of the Law Department

 

Mr. Yongjian Sun, former science and technology consul of the Chinese Consulate-General in Montreal and senior policy advisor of the Law Department, shared his many years of experience working in research facilities and encouraged more scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada. At the same time, he and Miao Song (CCIFF Director) reviewed the background and history of Canadian-Chinese exchanges in arts and technology, and presented the annual main events organized by Canada China Art-Tech in China and Canada, and available contents in entertainment technology of two countries.

CCIFF Director Miao Song sincerely thanked all the guests for attending the press conference. She provided an overview of the previous editions and hoped to demonstrate the Festival’s growth in the third edition.

 

 

 

The press conference provided detailed information on a series of events in the context of the Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018 and of science and technology exchange, such as film screenings, master class, script competition, entertainment technology summits, etc. Quebec Film and Television Bureau (QFTC), the organizer of the Chinese Quebec Fam Tour, invited the guests to come to Montreal to inspect high-quality movie resources, advanced film equipment, and to have an in-depth understanding of policies such as tax rebate, cooperation, and co-production. It aims to provide opportunities to professionals for project cooperation, collaboration, research, and implementation. It also promotes the combination of art and technology in the global entertainment technology industry. A promotional video made by Tourisme Montréal was showed during the press conference illustrating the unique architecture and scenery of Montreal.

 

 

 

Xiaoyong Mu, Summer Start TV Media Chief Operating Officer and Producer

 

Furthermore, famous Chinese filmmakers attending the third edition of the Festival were invited at the press conference. They shared their film projects to be launched in Montreal and in Canada. For the first time, Producer Xiaoyong Mu published the promotional poster of the documentary We Made a Film in China, which took three years to finish. The director of this documentary, Mr. Peng Wang also attended the press conference. The documentary describes director Yimou Zhang’s experience in filming the movie Shadow.

 

 

 

Hantang Zhao, Director of Seventy-Seven Days

 

During the press conference, Mr. Hantang Zhao, director of the award-winning film Seventy-Seven Days, presented the movie project that he will be working on in Canada to the guests. He expressed his aspiration for the scenery in Quebec, and he encouraged Chinese filmmakers to seize the opportunity provided by this Canada-China film collaboration platform.

 

 

Dingling Chen, Chairman of the Board of DreamPlus Corporation CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited

 

Mr. Dingling Chen, Chairman of the Board of DreamPlus Corporation CoolBoy (Shanghai) Industrial Corporation Limited, presented the experienced production team of “Once a Thief 2’ at the press conference. “Once a Thief 2” is a Chinese-Canadian film cooperation project signed during the second edition of Canada-China International Film Festival last year. Currently, it has been determined that the famous Hollywood director Martin Campbell will be directing the movie, along with the Oscar best screenwriter Paul Haggis. “Once a Thief 2” is expected to start shooting between end of 2018 or beginning of 2019 in Montreal, Quebec.

 

During the signing ceremony, Director Miao Song and Mr. Xinyong Li, vice-president of Beijing Xiangda Investment Management Company Ltd., signed the “Third Edition of Canada China International Film Festival Travel Service Agreement” within the context of Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018. Beijing Xiangda Investment Management Company Ltd. is a strategic partner responsible for the travel service for the guests.
